Uganda

Uganda may be my favourite country I have ever visited. The people are very hospitable, the nature is so green, and the wildlife is diverse and special. Most people  visit this country to find the gorillas and chimpanzees, but fall in love with the rest of the country. Uganda is special, and you have to experience it.

The country is a landlocked country located in Eastern Africa. It consists of many forests in the south, west and east, and it has a drier environment in the north. In the southeast you can find Lake Victoria, the biggest lake in Africa. The capital is Kampala, which holds around 4 million of the 44 million inhabitants. Uganda has many, many refugees because there are difficult situations in neighbouring countries like South Sudan and Congo. Uganda itself is a more peaceful country in general.

I have visited Uganda once for two weeks with a private guide. It is very convenient to go with a guide, as the directions are very difficult to discover and Google Maps is not reliable. I was visiting the west and south of the country to discover the apes and great safaris. It is the most popular area in Uganda but not close to the popularity of neighbouring countries like Tanzania and Kenya. I visited in November, which is traditionally the short rainy season. Although we had some rain, it was not very heavy.

If you want to combine a classic safari (which may be less interesting than other countries) with visiting the apes. Besides, there are some other safari activities, like boat or walking safari options. The green scenery is fantastic, and you will fall in love with the people and the scenery. Uganda should be high on your list!
